Lee Chong, Zhu Lin get top billing

HYDERABAD: World No. 3 Lee Chong Wei of Malaysia and reigning World champion Zhu Lin have been given the pride of place in the men’s and women’s singles respectively in the Indian Open Grand Prix badminton championship to be held at Kotla Vijaya Bhaskara Reddy Indoor Stadium here from September 4 to 9, according to K.Ch. Punnaiah Choudhary, joint secretary of Badminton Association of India.

In women’s doubles, the World champion pair of Wei Yang and Jiewen Zhang is top seeded.

The men’s doubles top-seeded pair is Olympic champion Candra Wijaya and Tony Gunawan.

“The Indian contingent will comprise 34 players including 11 singles players in men’s and six women’s singles players.

“There will no qualifying rounds and all the Indians will be in the main draw,” Punnaiah said.

The seedings: Men’s singles: 1. Lee Chong Wei, 2. Bao Chun Lai, 3. Chen Yu, 4. Taufiq Hidayat, 5. Choong Hann Wang, 6. Muhd Hafiz B.Hashim, 7. Sung Hwan Park.

Women’s singles: 1. Zhu Lin, 2. Lu Lan, 3. Pui Yin Yip, 4.Julianne Schenk. — Principal Correspondent
