Brazil on top

BERNE: Brazil remained on top of the FIFA world rankings following a quiet month without any major international games.

The South Americans, who regained the top spot in July thanks to their victory in the Copa America, stayed one place in front of beaten finalist Argentina, while Italy held on to the third spot.

France and Germany completed an unchanged top five.

Croatia climbed one spot to sixth at the expense of the Netherlands, while Spain and the Czech Republic leapfrogged 10th-placed Portugal. England is in the 12th spot after slipping out of the top 10 last month.

India 151st

Meanwhile, the 6-0 thrashing of Cambodia in the ONGC Nehru Cup in New Delhi last week fetched India rich rewards.

India is now ranked 151, up 11 spots from the July list.

This is its best ranking in nearly two years.

The top 10 rankings:

1. Brazil, 2. Argentina, 3. Italy, 4. France, 5. Germany, 6. Croatia, 7. Netherlands, 8. Spain, 9. Czech Republic and 10. Portugal.
