She was allegedly killed by a gang in 1997 But she turned up in a court in 2006
MADURAI: The Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court on Wednesday directed the Crime Branch-CID here to conduct a DNA test on a 22-year-old Dalit girl and her father to ascertain her identity. The girl was allegedly raped and murdered by a gang of three in 1997 as per a charge sheet filed by the CB-CID before a special court here. But the case took an unexpected turn as she appeared before the lower court on November 11, 2006, claiming to have been living in Pudukottai district for nine years. Two of the accused filed a petition before the Bench seeking to initiate criminal proceedings against the personnel who “coerced” them into signing a written confession. When the matter came up for final disposal before Justice G. Rajasuria on Wednesday, the girl told the judge that one of the accused abducted her to Pudukottai in 1997, from where she escaped. Not convinced with her explanation, the judge ordered a DNA test and directed the investigating officers to file replies in 15 days.
