Udhagamandalam: Overdependence on the government for providing jobs should be eschewed, said the Nilgiris Collector, Santosh K. Misra, here on Thursday. Participating in a function organised by the Tamil daily ‘Dhina Thanthi’ to distribute prizes to students who had excelled in the 2007 SSLC examinations, he said that students should aspire to become entrepreneurs and employment providers. Self-confidence
Underscoring the importance of self-confidence, he said that in many ways they could serve the society. Students should extend a helping hand to the solid waste management programme. Stating that the social responsibility of the corporate sector was on the rise, he said that recognising the achievements of the younger generation motivated them to perform better. Quoting former President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, Mr. Misra said ‘to aim low is a crime’. The Manager, ‘Daily Thanthi’, D. Ranganathan, welcomed the gathering. Among those present was the president, Citizens Forum of Ootacamund, S. Motilal Kataria. The prize winners were K.R. Sindhuja (Shanthi Vijaya Girls Higher Secondary School, Ooty); R.
