Chennai Silks founder dead

COIMBATORE: Founder of the Chennai Silks, Sri Kumaran Thanga Maaligai and SCM Group of Companies, A. Kulandaivel Mudaliyar (81), died at his residence here on Thursday.

He had been ailing for almost a year. Born in 1926 at Devarayampalayam, near Tirupur, his first venture was a khadi retail outlet (Khadi Vastralaya) at Madurai in 1962. The group now has operations across the country.

Kulandaivel Mudaliyar also managed the A.K. Nachammal Trust in Tirupur.

He is survived by his sons and daughters.
