Expedition to the Himalayas

NEW DELHI: Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas Murli Deora on Wednesday flagged off a motorcycle expedition to Daulat Beg Oldi in Jammu & Kashmir from here.
The 13-member expedition is organised by Bikers for Integration and Conservation of Environment (BICE) to promote ecological awareness and a spirit of adventure.
Mr. Deora said that the expedition, titled ‘Peaks Of Freedom,’ will be a tribute to the courage, patriotism and resilience of the armed forces as its members are scheduled to touch those Himalayan ranges where the personnel in uniform have made some of the greatest sacrifices during various conflicts.
He expressed the hope that the expedition members would bond with the people of the regions through which they pass, promoting national integrity and spreading the message of peace.
They are expected to pass through the Rohtang Pass, Baralacha, Nakeela Lachalungla, Tanglangla, Changla, Khardungla. They aim to reach Daulat Beg Oldi near the Karakoram Pass at a height of 19,000 feet, criss-crossing Trans-Himalayan passes.
The members of the team, which comprises journalists, photographers and other professionals, have chosen a village located at the northernmost tip of Ladakh as their final target.
