Eco campaign on boat planned

PATHANAMTHITTA: The Mar Gregorios Orthodox Christian Youth Movement (MGOCYM) unit attached to the Niranom diocese of the Malankara Orthodox Church will organise an environment awareness campaign in Upper Kuttanad on August 26.

According to Fr. Varghese Mathew, MGOCYM unit president and the secretary, Saji Mabrakkuzhy, the campaign in a motor boat is aimed at spreading environmental awareness among those residing on river banks. It will begin from Viyapuram in Alappuzha district on Sunday morning, culminating at Parumala in Pathanamthitta district in the evening.

Metropolitan of the Niranom diocese Youhanon Mar Chrisostomos will lead the eco campaign. Kuttanad MLA Thomas Chandy will inaugurate the campaign at the Paippad boat jetty. Fr. A.T. Geevarghese will preside over the function. A public meeting will also be held as part of the valedictory function at Parumala kadavu in the evening. Yuyakim Mar Coorilos Episcopa will inaugurate it.
