HYDERABAD: Even as Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy expressed his displeasure over the delay in land acquisition by Revenue officials, CPI State secretary K. Narayana said that the constitution of an independent land commission would go a long way in solving the issues. “We have been demanding the constitution of a land panel to oversee all such issues as the Revenue Department is already burdened. But the Government is not conceding the demand,” Dr. Narayana said. Though the Chief Minister was responding positively to the issues brought out by the Left, his “words were not translating into action,” he told The Hindu. The senior CPI leader objected to remarks of Dr. Reddy and Reven ue Minister Dharmana Prasada Rao over the ‘independent’ panel sought by the Left parties with non-official members. Panels with non-officials as their members were not new and this could be seen from the fact that the Human Rights Commissions, Commissions for Backward Classes, minorities and other sections that consisted of non-official members were discharging their duties effectively. ‘Indifferent attitude’
Meanwhile, CPI (M) State secretariat member Y. Venkateswara Rao reiterated the party’s resolve to continue the land struggle till the demands were met. Mr. Rao, who visited the sites where the party launched its land struggle in and around the twin cities, criticised the Government for its “indifferent” attitude towards the agitation that entered the 110th day on Thursday.
