NEW DELHI: A parliamentary committee has recommended immediate suspension and lodging of an FIR (First Information Report) against any individual found prima facie guilty of producing a false caste certificate to get a government jo b. The Committee on the Welfare of the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes on the subject of “Reservation for Employment of the SC/ST in Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT),” tabled in the Lok Sabha on Thursday, said a departmental enquiry should also be initiated in such a case immediately and the matter referred to the Collector or the District Magistrate concerned for verification of the certificate. To expeditiously decide such cases, the committee has strongly recommended that special courts be set up and the existing law be made more stringent to punish the guilty. Those who have joined the government service by furnishing such false certificates should be dismissed forthwith, the committee has suggested while directing the authorities to apprise it of the exact figure of such people immediately along with action taken against them. The committee found that there were several instances of getting jobs on the basis of false certificates in the CBDT, particularly in the South and the manner in which these cases were tackled was not satisfactory as the investigations in some cases dragged on for a long time and, at times, the people concerned retired before the completion of the probe. Also, the committee said caste prejudice, discrimination, hatred and bias towards the SC/ST employees in the government departments should not be allowed to thrive. In this context, it has asked the CBDT to check that inquiry cases against SC/ST employees were not initiated on the basis of caste prejudices or biased attitude but only on the basis of the merit of the case.
