Hyderabad: One thing that Hyderabadis crib about is the never ending traffic chaos in city. But this group of techies are determined to become the change makers, not just change seekers. They launched an initiative recently to spread awareness about the need to keep the left lane of any road free. “Move into the left lane only if you are taking the left turn,” is the message they want to spread. Wearing bright coloured aprons, the volunteers from Sum Total, a software company in Madhapur, stood at the Cyber Towers junction requesting motorists not to stop their vehicles on the left lane. Blog launched
It is not just their physical effort. They launched a blog ‘ www.trafficinhyderabad.blogspot.com’ to spread awareness about the need to keep the left lane free. The blog speaks about traffic in Hyderabad especially at the Cyber Towers junction. Sum Total team leader Sameer Mehta, the brain behind the initiative says: “We’re not trying to revolutionise the way we look at driving on Hyderabad roads. We’re just looking at a simple change - free the left lane” From the time the month-long campaign was launched on August 21, the enthusiastic volunteers have managed to change the traffic situation at the junction to some extent. “Most of the people who travel on this road are highly educated and they are the ones who stop cabs and get off right in the middle of the road. We have been telling people not to do this as it distorts the flow of traffic,” says Sujit Reddy, marketing analyst.
