Stage set for contest

Thiruvananthapuram: The stage is set for The Hindu-Metro Plus Pookkalam Contest 2007 being held simultaneously in Thiruvananthapuram and Kochi on August 25.

The maximum number of 50 teams each have registered at both the centres for the contest which will be held at the Government Women’s College auditorium in Thiruvananthapuram and at Assissi Vidyaniketan Public School at Chembumukku, Kakkanad, in Kochi.

The teams should report at the venues at 8.30 a.m. and the contest will get under way at 9.30 a.m. Natural flowers and leaves alone should be used.

Dimensions

The pookkalams can be circular or square but their diameter, length and breadth should not exceed 5 ft.

They should have a minimum area of 20 sq.ft. and a maximum of 25 sq.ft. Flowers will have to be arranged by the participants but a sum of Rs.500 will be reimbursed towards their cost after the contest.

The contest will end at 12 noon and the pookkalams will be judged soon after that.

Prizes

The prize distribution ceremony will be held at 1.30 p.m. The first three prizes would be Rs. 20,000, Rs.12,500 and Rs.7,500 respectively at both centres. Ten consolation prizes of Rs.1,500 each will also be given.

All teams will be given gift vouchers.

TV and film actor Chandra Lakshman is the chief guest in Thiruvananthapuram and actor Harishree Asokan the chief guest in Kochi.

The prize distribution function is open to the public. A whole range of prizes await the lucky among them.

Tata Sky is the title sponsor of the contest.

The associate sponsors are Amul and Sprinkle Salt. IFB is the prize sponsor. Bond Street Perfumes India Pvt. Ltd. and Shree Devi Textiles are the gift sponsors.

Bru is the beverage partner and Akbar Travels the travel partner.
