A godsend opportunity?

For once politics has been sidelined by sports. The Indian Cricket League’s dramatic emergence as an alternative to the mighty BCCI has caught the public’s imagination, relegating the game itself to the background and bringing backroom manoeuvres to the fore.

The new body seems godsend for talented youngsters, hitherto in exile. Never-before heard of pay checks and increased exposure to international cricket should see spirited performances from these players, professionally more competent than those propped up by petty politics.

In the days to come, cricket will be the cynosure, with happy days here again for the game’s fanatic followers.

Quality will be at a premium, complacence dreaded. Competition, be it from the official body or the breakaway outfit, should bring out the best and take the game forward. The more the merrier, shall we say?
