Salem division: team to meet Manmohan

Staff Reporter

SALEM: Agriculture Minister Veerapandi S. Arumugam has announced that no train either culminating at or originating from Palghat and Thiruvananthapuram divisions would be allowed to pass through Tamil Nadu from August 25.

Announcing the details of the agitation here on Thursday, the Minister said the rail roko would continue till the Railway Ministry cleared the formation of the Salem Railway Division, earlier announced in Parliament and during the budget session.

“It is our right and we will fight to safeguard it till this long-pending demand of Tamil Nadu people is fulfilled.”

A delegation, led by Union Minister T. R. Baalu, would meet the Prime Minister and the Railway Minister shortly.

The inaugural function of the Salem Railway Division would be held on September 14 as announced, Mr. Arumugam said.
