GULBARGA: Nine persons from Maharashtra who were returning after a pilgrimage to Tirupati and Srisailam in Andhra Pradesh were killed and six suffered serious injuries when the maxicab by which they were travelling collided with a truck at Madbol Cross on the Gulbarga-Bangalore State Highway, near Shahpur town in Gulbarga district, on Thursday. While four persons died on the spot, five succumbed to their injuries on the way to government hospitals in Shahpur and Gulbarga. The police said the condition of the injured was serious. The police released the names of five of those who died. They are Raju Swami, Varada Shambu, Rajendra Swamy, Rachoti Earana Siddaramappa and Mahadev Swamy. Senior police officials supervised the relief operations.
