Smart City: efforts for smooth land handover

Staff Reporter

KOCHI: With the officials from Tecom, promoters of the proposed Smart City project in Kochi, visiting the project site on Wednesday, efforts to sort out the minor issues regarding the land to be handed over to the company have gathered pace.

The objective is to ensure quick and smooth handover of the land.

The Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) is expected to find alternative land at Brahmapuram, as out of the 100 acres which it agreed to hand over for the project only 90 are free to be utilised. The remaining 10 acres are being used to house the equipment and buildings of the board’s diesel power plant.

Collector A.P.M. Mohammed Hanish on Thursday said that the KSEB Chairman had pledged to find alternative 10 acres for the project in lieu of the land occupied by the board.

Another three acres of alternative land at Mapranam near Chittethukara had also been proposed to the Tecom officials during their visit.

Government proposal

This became necessary after the Government made a proposal for releasing three acres from the already identified land for the project considering the demand of the evictees to be rehabilitated based on the principle of proximity.

According to the Collector, the officials responded favourably to the proposal.
