Probe sought into corporation affairs

Staff Correspondent

HUBLI: Members of the Hubli-Dharwad unit of the Karnataka Pradesh Samajwadi Party will stage a dharna in front of the office of the Hubli-Dharwad Municipal Corporation here on August 27 seeking a Lokayukta inquiry into the alleged irregularities in the corporation.

In a press release issued here on Friday, Govindaraj Harivan, president of the unit, said that a decision in this regard was taken during a meeting of the office-bearers of the unit on Thursday.

He alleged that on the pretext of development, loans were being raised by the corporation and there was unnecessary expenditure. More than the required number of zonal offices had been established and consequently, the expenditure went up in the corporation, which had been facing a shortage of funds.

Mr. Harivan said the party was against the increase in water tariff and said that it would launch an agitation if no steps were taken to bring it down.
