Kochi: A Division Bench of the Kerala High Court directed the police on Friday to provide adequate protection for conducting an entrance test for admission to self-financing B.Sc. nursing courses scheduled for September 2 in Kollam, Ernakulam and Kozhikode. The Bench, comprising Justices K. Balakrishnan Nair and Harul-ul-Rashid, made it clear that the P.A. Mohammed committee should supervise the test. The Kerala Private Nursing College Management Association, which filed the petition, apprehended that those opposed to it would obstruct the test. The court directed the association to advertise the place and date of the test in newspapers. No compulsion
A Bench, comprising Justices K.S. Radhakrishnan and V.K. Mohanan, held that Government employees could not be compelled to buy lottery tickets issued by the State Government. The court said this while dealing with a writ petition filed by T. Nazeer, Kattur Government Lower Primary School teacher, alleging that the Government was insisting on purchase of the Santhwana lottery by the staff. Reserves order
A Bench reserved its order on a writ petition filed by senior Tantri Kandararu Maheswararu challenging the order of the Travancore Devaswom Board directing him not to depute any of his relatives for performing the duties of Tantri at Sabarimala. As directed by the court, the Government produced the case diary of the incidents leading to the alleged manhandling of the former Sabarimala Tantri Kandararu Mohanaru in a flat in Kochi. In a rejoinder, the senior Tantri denied the allegations raised against his son Kandararu Mohanaru. He said no untoward incident took place when Mohanaru was in charge. The Board had no right to interfere in the spiritual rights of the Tazhamon family. Affiliation
The court directed Mahatma Gandhi University to grant permanent affiliation to the MBA course started by St. Albert’s College, Ernakulam. The court set aside an order of the university rejecting the application seeking permanent affiliation. The order came on a petition filed by the school manager.
