‘Respect views of members’

Staff Reporter

BANGALORE: Following a report in a Mumbai-based Kannada daily on the alleged undemocratic way of selecting a writer to chair the 74th Akhila Bharata Kannada Sahitya Sammelan to be held in October at Udupi, writer Vyasaraya Ballal, who was in the race for the post, has said that there is a need to ensure that presidents of the parishat should not exhibit their audacity and distort the members view in the selection of chairpersons for the annual event.

In a release here on Friday, Mr. Ballal said that he had learnt that the president of the parishat Chandrashekhar Pa- til had preferred to ignore those who advocated for his (Mr. Ballal’s) candidature and made a suo motu annou ncement in favour of L.S. Seshagiri Rao. According to reports and the minutes of the parishat’s executive committee meeting held on July 29, 13 members had favoured him (Mr. Ballal).
