THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Cabinet has cleared a Bill to check reclamation of paddy field and watersheds. Briefing mediapersons after the Cabinet meeting here on Friday, Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan said the Bill was aimed at protecting existing paddy fields and watersheds. The Cabinet, he said, had also decided to allocate each districts to different Ministers to oversee the implementation of the Clean Kerala Campaign slated for September. It also decided to amend the CrPC to permit video conferencing in jails. This would require prior Central clearance. The Cabinet also sanctioned 54 posts of pharmacists for Maveli medical stores. It approved the proposal for providing 10 kilograms of rice for 259 workers at the Alappuzha port, who have been remaining jobless for years and endorsed the wage revision pact in the Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB). Permission was also granted to the Kerala State Cashew Development Corporation (KSCDC) for taking up cashew cultivation in 140 acres at Nedumangad and Nooranad. A sum of Rs.50 lakh was also sanctioned for the purpose, the Chief Minister said.
