NEW DELHI: Several parts of the Capital experienced power cuts ranging from six to eight hours on Friday even as the Delhi Government’s Power Department claimed there was no shortage.
The department claimed to have met the peak load on the system recorded at 3,597 MW, but many areas in East Delhi, West Delhi and South West Delhi complained of blackouts several times during the day. Rotational load-shedding was carried out many times in some areas.
The city faced a shortfall of about 200 MW, and its own power generation stood at 1,118 MW. With the frequency dipping, load-shedding was carried out by the power distribution companies to prevent grid collapse.
The Badarpur thermal power station generated 406 MW, while the Gas Turbine generated 176 MW of power. I. P. Power and Pragati generated 129 MW and 292 MW respectively, while Rajghat generated 116 MW. Delhi was overdrawing 308 MW of electricity from the Northern Grid to meet the demand.
