NEW DELHI: A 17-year-old son of a small-time businessman was beaten to death allegedly by his college mates in neighbouring Dadri on Thursday following an altercation over a student unwittingly staining the victim’s shirt with “paan masala”. According to the police, Navin, a Class XI student of Ishwar Chand Inter College, had a minor altercation with two students of his college after one of them accidentally stained his shirt on Wednesday. Navin allegedly abused the two, but the matter was defused following intervention by some teachers. On Thursday afternoon, the two students along with four of their friends cornered Navin near the gate of the institution and allegedly kicked, punched and beat him up with chappals. When Navin screamed for help, some passers-by gathered at the spot, informed his parents about the incident and took the boy to a nearby hospital. Navin, who had fallen unconsciousness because of brutal bashing, succumbed to the injuries in the evening. The police have registered a case of culpable homicide not amounting to murder against the assailants and one of them has been arrested. The five, all residents of Durai village, are absconding.
