SHRC seeks report from Collector

Special Correspondent

HYDERABAD: The State Human Rights Commission (SHRC) has sought a report from Nalgonda Collector about the medical facilities that could be extended to three children of Suryapet who were handicapped by ailments including muscular dystrophy and polio.

The commission passed the orders to the Collector following a news item in The Hindu on Friday that narrated the plight of a poor worker whose two minor sons were afflicted with muscular dystrophy and the daughter had a polio-stricken hand.

The orders of the commission noted that the family faced a distressing situation and a serious human rights problem. A welfare State could not be mute witness to such a tragedy of a poor family. Therefore, it wanted to know what medical aid and rehabilitation measures could be taken to alleviate the suffering of the victims.
