MOSCOW: The BrahMos supersonic cruise missile will arm the new submarines of the Indian Navy, a Russian defence industry official said. Referring to India’s plans to acquire more foreign-built submarines, Mr. Alexander Maksimichev of the Indo-Russian joint venture BrahMos said: “I don’t know what submarines India will buy, but I know for certain that they will be armed with Brahmos missiles.” The Interfax-AVN news wire quoted the BrahMos official as saying that Russia stood a good chance of winning the IN tender for diesel-electric submarines because “a certain amount of work to fit BrahMos to Russian submarines has been carried out.”
