VISAKHAPATNAM: The police department will not protect those who had allegedly raped Girijan women at Vakapalli and the police should not be accused of dereliction of duty, Superintendent of Police Akun Sabharwal said here on Friday. Additional S.P. (administration) B. Ananda Rao was investigating and a case was booked against the accused under the SC, ST Atrocities (prevention) Act while medical tests were conducted on the women to ascertain the fact, he said in a press release. Dr. Sabharwal also suggested to the political parties and women organisations not to cause inconvenience to the Girijan women in the name of consoling them and by floating their own versions of the incident. These actions might also result in subversion of investigating process. “Leaders of political parties and organisations should also understand that defaming false remarks about women in the media may cause mental trauma to these women. Political parties and women organisations should also be conscious of the human rights, " he said.
