Staff Reporter

Allege land-grabbing by Congress MLA

VISAKHAPATNAM: Telugu Desam leaders from north Andhra identified lands of the poor and farmers that were allegedly grabbed by Congress leaders at Pulagavanipalem village and Pendurthy in the city on Friday.

The Telugu Desam leaders interacted with villagers and undertook a ‘padayatra’ from Pulagavanipalem to Velampeta in Pendurthy as part of their campaign demanding issue of ‘pattas’ to the poor and takeover of lands that were allegedly grabbed by ruling party MLAs and Congress leaders in the district.

TDP leaders -- Kala Venkata Rao, M.V.V.S. Murthy, Ch. Ayyanna Patrudu, Zaheer Ahmed, Chengala Venkata Rao, S.A. Rehaman, Gana Babu, Shoba Hymavathi, Palla Simhachalam, Gudivada Nagamani, Allu Bhanumathi, Bharanikana Rama Rao, Reddy Satyanarayana, Kona Tata Rao -- and a host of party leaders and activists participated in the rally braving the intermittent rain at Pendurthy.

Villagers’ charge

At Pulagavanipalem, the villagers alleged that the civic authorities had dumped debris into a community well a week ago to favour a Congress party activist who wanted the electrical transformer located near his house shifted to the land where the well was located. The rally proceeded to ‘Peddamma Cheruvu’, a tank at Velampeta in Pendurthy. The TD leaders alleged that the MLA Gandi Babji purchased the ‘jirayathi’ land from farmers at cheap rate. s and got it registered in his name. He was trying to get the tank, which supplies water to the nearby fields, closed and convert it into plots. They demanded suspension and prosecution of the MLA. The TD leaders produced a copy of the document that showed that tank land was purchased by Gandi Babji.
