KOCHI: Having a sumptuous ‘onasadya’ complete with two types of ‘payasams’ in midair. Sounds good? That is exactly what awaits Air India (AI) passengers as the national carrier is all set to serve traditional onasadya aboard its flights from the State in keeping with sentiments attached to the Malayali’s own festival. The airline will serve sadya for lunch and dinner aboard its flights from all the three airports in the State from Sunday through to Tuesday. “This is a tradition we have been following for the last 25 years on our Kerala sector services,” an AI official said. The only thing the passengers will be missing will be the plantain leaf, on which the onasadya is traditionally served. “It is not practical to roll out banana leafs on board the flight, and moreover, it will not help quick serving,” the official said. Besides, there is an Onam gift from the airline for those Malayalis waiting to return home under the general amnesty granted by the Gulf authorities. The ten additional services of Air India Express (AIE), which the airline is operating from Kerala to Dubai to cater to the heavy rush to West Asia in view of schools reopening there, will be dedicated for carrying amnesty passengers on the return trip. “We are offering these services in keeping with our social commitment and the fares are negligible,” he said. The AIE will operate three additional services to Dubai from the Cochin International Airport on August 27, 29 and September 2, while an additional service to Doha will be operated on August 30. The airline will operate three additional services to Dubai from Thiruvananthapuram, the first of which was operated on Thursday. The rest will be operated on August 27 and 31. There will be five additional services to Dubai from the Kozhikode airport, on August 26, 29, 30 and September 1 and 2. An additional service to Doha will be operated on August 30.
