Calicut University Centre for Folklore Studies, Vadakara: The University Registrar has termed the news that appeared in some newspapers about the University Centre for Folklore Studies, Vadakara, as ‘baseless.’ The Centre and B.Ed. centres we re started during the tenure of former vice-chancellor K.K.N. Kurup and the then Vadakara municipal chairman with a view of expanding them in future. Efforts were on with help from various quarters to turn this Centre into a best learning and research centre. University has not observed that any Department or any teaching or non-teaching staff was indulging in activities against the development of this Centre or against opening new Departments there. Hence, such reports could only hinder the development of the University Centre at Vadakara, the Registrar said. M.Sc. results: The results of the third semester examinations of M.Sc. mathematics and statistics, first and third semesters of M.Sc. botany and applied chemistry held in January/February 2007 have been published. The results can be ac cessed at the University website. The last date for re-evaluation\scrutiny\copies of answer sheets is September 15. NSS programme coordinator: Dr. A.B. Moidheenkutty, lecturer, Arabic Department, has been appointed as coordinator of the National Service Scheme (NSS) of the University. Ban on plastics: The use of plastic carry bags and cups below the thickness of 30 microns has been banned on the University campus.
