KOCHI: The Kalamassery police on Saturday arrested three persons on charges of robbery and assault. The arrested were identified as P.N. Udayan, also known as Neernai, 31, of Laksham Veedu Colony, Koonamthayyil; Abhilash, 21, of Cheruvaparambil veedu, Kunnathur, Aluva East; and Jayaraj M.V., 22, Amballoor, Mulanthuruthy. The police said the three were part of a eight-member group that attacked Sasidharan, 55, of Renji Nilayam, Puthupallipuram, Kalamassery, on August 7 when he was going back home from his lorry workshop. The group assaulted him with iron rods and robbed gold chain weighing five sovereigns and his mobile phone. Mr. Sasidharan was admitted to the Ernakulam Medical Centre in a serious condition. He gave hints about the accused, of which Udayan was his neighbour, when he regained consciousness. The police team led by R. Salim, Kalamassery Circle Inspector, arrested Udayan from a bar at North Kalamassery and Abhilash from Aluva Companypadi on Friday evening.
