Staff Reporter

In protest against delay in running of trains

UTTUKULI: Irate passengers of the Bangalore-Kanyakumari Island Express (6526) pelted with stones at the railway station here, in protest against the delay in the running of trains.

They damaged a railway signal and the headlight of the train, said sources in the Railway Police.

A case has been registered in this connection.

The protesters resorted to violence following the train’s unscheduled stopping at the Uttukuli Railway Station for nearly three hours, from 4.45 a.m.

Sources in the Station said they stopped the train following reports that picketing was on at the Tirupur Railway Station in support of the formation of Salem Railway Division.

No other untoward incident was reported here.

Following the incident police were posted in large numbers.
