Congress asks for electoral support from people ‘Yediyurappa lacks vision and is inexperienced’
Bidar: The Congress Party launched a State-wide campaign for the urban local body elections through a series of rallies in Bidar district on Friday. Many leaders used the rallies as a platform to highlight lacunae in the Janata Dal (Secular)-Bharatiya Janata Party Government’s administration, and appealed for support in future elections. Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee president Mallikarjun Kharge went on to declare that the Assembly elections would follow the local body polls. Speaking at Basava Kalyan, he criticised the coalition Government for following “anti -people policies”. He accused Ministers of looting the State Treasury. He also said the Government had failed to implement the recommendations of the D.M. Nanjundappa Committee report. The Government had neglected backward areas such as the Hyderabad-Karnataka region and was only focussed on developed districts, he said. False credit
He also accused Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy and Deputy Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa of taking credit for development work implemented by former Chief Ministers S.M. Krishna and N. Dharam Singh. He claimed that the Bidar Air Force Base, the Karanja Irrigation Project, construction of national highways, a veterinary university and the Government medical college were contributions of various Congress governments. But the current Government had claimed false credit for them, he said. Earlier Congress governments had constructed 11 lakh houses for the poor, while this Government had not even built a single house for the poor, he said, adding that allegations by some BJP leaders that the UPA Government was not supporting the State Government’s projects, were baseless. At Humnabad, Mr. Kharge urged voters to support the Congress. He said the State would suffer from continued saffronisation if Mr. Yediyurappa were to assume charge as Chief Minister. Leader of the Opposition N. Dharam Singh said the State budget had shown that Finance Minister was inexperienced and lacked vision. He described Mr. Kumaraswamy’s “Gram Vastavya” programme as a publicity stunt. We have asked him to release a white paper on the positive effects of the programme, which he has not agreed to, he said.
