Krishnagiri: The District Administration has initiated steps to issue birth certificates to all children in the age group of 0 to 3 years in Krishnagiri district, Collector Santhosh Babu has said. As part of the Child Friendly Village Planning (CFVP) process, a household survey was conducted by facilitators of UNICEF in 10 blocks in Krishnagiri district. During the survey, facilitators made enquiries with family members about the registration of births and issue of birth certificates. Details of children without birth certificates were collected and the list was given to the village administrative officers. It was found that a sizeable percentage of the rural population had not received their children’s birth certificates due to lack of awareness. As a result, rural parents found it difficult to enrol their children in appropriate schools. The district administration will conduct a three-month campaign to issue pending birth certificates to all children in the district by November. The Collector said that the nodal non-Governmental organisations (NGOs) would be entrusted with the task of providing the incentive for construction and usage of individual household toilets. A two-pronged strategy would be employed for promotion of IEC activities to change the mindset of people regarding the construction and usage of toilets. The services of noon meal organizers would be made use of to supply eggs under the noon meal scheme to anganwadi centres in the district. This would prevent absenteeism of anganwadi workers. Panchayat level convergence committees would meet at the panchayats concerned every month to review the progress of enrolment of out-of-school children. Project Officer Education UNICEF Aruna Rathinam, P. Ganesamoorthi and district officials spoke.
