BIJAPUR: In a joint operation, the Bijapur and Bagalkot police arrested three of a four-member inter-State gang who allegedly committed three robberies in the region on Wednesday. They have been identified as Madan Mohan Shinde, Bajrang Shivaji Gaikwad and H.S. Gaikwad, all residents of Mumbai. A vehicle and over Rs. 5 lakh have been recovered from them. They allegedly waylaid two lorries on the Raichur-Belgaum Road near Ameenghada, and snatched around Rs. 5,000 from the driver in the early hours on Wednesday. Driver assaulted
In the afternoon, they waylaid an oil tanker near Nidgundi in Basavanabagewadi taluk, and made away with Rs. 5 lakh after assaulting the driver. The driver noted down the number of the vehicle in which the accused had sped away and alerted the police. The vehicle was traced near Sangam Cross in Hungund taluk. But on seeing the police, they tried to escape through Nandargi Road. The police chased and nabbed the offenders with the help of people of Nandargi village. Search was on for the fourth person who was at large, the police said.
