Residents involve in rebuilding 1,100-year-old Sri Lakshmi Narayana Perumal temple
VILLUPURAM: The renovation work on the 1,100-year-old Sri Lakshmi Narayana Perumal temple at Rampakkam near here are under way. Fifty years ago, the temple was consecrated after carrying out minor repairs.
According to the renovation committee, the ancient structure consisting of the sanctum sanctorum and a mandapam was expanded a century ago with the addition of ‘sannadhis’ for Goddess Thayar and Lord Rama.
Now, the residents decided to renovate the temple that is in a dilapidated condition. Besides the renovation of the ‘raja gopuram’ and ‘sannidhi mandapam’, it had been proposed to construct ‘sannadhis’ for Anjaneyar and Garaudalwar.
The Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowment Department, under whose administrative control the temple comes, has constituted a committee for the purpose. The consecration is scheduled for September 16 and Sri Rangaramanuja Maha Desikan, present pontiff of Sri Rangam Srimad Andavan Ashramam, has promised to participate in the ‘Mahasamprokshnam.’
The renovation committee said that devotees who were desirous of contributing to the holy cause could do so by sending a cheque or demand draft favouring Lakshmi Narayana Perumal Thirupani Committee, Sri Lakshmi Naryana Perumal Temple, Rampakkam, Villupuram-605105.
