PUDUCHERRY: One person died and another sustained injuries as the ceiling of an old building collapsed at Savari Rayalu Street in the town on Saturday. The deceased Perumal (60), a construction worker from Kudapakkam, died on the spot and his co-worker Pandian (22) had been admitted to the General Hospital. The victims were engaged in demolishing the old building. As they were peeling of the sidewall, the ceiling suddenly collapsed on them, according to the police. Police said the recent spell of rains must have weakened the ceiling. The Odiansalai police have registered a case. — Staff Reporter
