Special Correspondent
Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala Livestock Development Board (KLD) and the Meat Products of India (MPI), both agencies of the Kerala Government, created history of sorts here today by launching traceable meat in the market for the first time in the country. The launching was done by Food and Civil Supplies Minister C.Divakaran, who is also in charge of Animal Husbandry and Dairy Developments. The meat comes from high quality cattle reared and fed according to international norms in the KLD Board’s farms at Mattupetty, Dhoni and Kulathupuzha. The meat is processed and packed scientifically by the MPI. The cattle brought for slaughtering to Kerala from other States is often not dependable. They include disease affected and antibiotic hormone-treated cattle. The number of the animal from which the meat comes will be printed on the packet. The consumer can find out all the details if they refer to that number in the web sites www.livestockkerala.org or www.meatproductsofindia.
