TIRUCHENGODE: The Tamil Nadu State Council for Science and Technology (TNSCST) has drawn plans to take technology to villages.
This ‘lab to land’ project would be carried out with the help of self-help groups, NGOs and education institutions, S. Vincent, Member Secretary, TNSCST, said while talking to journalists on the sidelines of a State-level student projects’ seminar-cum-exhibition, organised at the K.S. Rangasamy College of Technology here on Friday.
He said the State had been divided into 10 zones and education institutions had been identified for to take technology to villages in 30 districts. One more aim of the project would be to create interest in rural students in scientific research.
Dr. Vincent also said that since the exhibition started in 1992, the TNSCST had only rewarded the students with best projects but did very little further. From the current year onwards efforts would be initiated to help the students patent their projects.
Vice-Chancellor of Periyar University, Salem, M. Thangarasu said the University was in the process of starting a new course in herbal science.
It was done taking into consideration the rich presence of herbs in the neighbouring regions. The president of KSR Education Institutions, K. S. Rangasamy, Principal, KSRCT, PSS. Srinivasan, and others participated.
