MSS WB College emerges winner

Madurai: Host MSS Wakf Board College emerged the winner in the Madurai Kamaraj University ‘A’ Zone inter-collegiate cricket tournament, defeating American College by five wickets at Madurai on Saturday.

The scores:

American College 113 in 22.4 overs (Suriya 36 not out, Uduman Ali three for 13, Dinesh Kumar three for 16, Rajesh Kumar three for 16) lost to M.S.S. Wakf Board College 117 for five in 24.3 overs (Tayub 31, Pradeep Kumar 30).
Sourashtra College wins

Sourashtra College beat Madura College 26-22 for the title in the Madurai Kamaraj University ‘B’ Zone inter-collegiate handball tournament.

The results: Final: Sourashtra College 26 (Prem 5, Anand 5, Madan 4, Albert 4) bt Madura College 22 (Anand 5, Jahir 5).
EMG Yadava Women’s College triumphs

EMG Yadava Women’s College won the title in Madurai Kamaraj University women’s Champion Trophy Kabaddi tournament with an all-win record in the four-team league on Friday.

Yadava College (men) Madurai finished runner-up losing only to EMG Yadava Women’s College.

EMG Yadava Women’s College bt Yadava College 42-22; EMG Yadava Women`s College bt Fathima College 44-13; EMG Yadava Women’s College bt Arul Anandar College (Karumathur) 66-15; Yadava College bt Fathima College 42-34; Yadava Coll ege bt Arul Anadar College 56-14 Fathima College bt Arul Anandar College 61-51.
Lady Doak College wins title

Lady Doak College (Madurai) lifted the Rev. Fr. C. Montaud memorial Trophy defeating Fatima College 2-0 in the final of the third annual State-level inter-collegiate women’s hockey tournament at Karumathur on Saturday.

Pavitra (41st) and Rathina (45th) scored for the winner.
Volleyball tournament

The fifth annual Kamarajar memorial Trophy State-level prize-money inter-collegiate volleyball tournament will be held at Madurai from August 31 to September 2.

ANJC takes title

At Sivakasi, Ayya Nadar Janakiammal College (Sivakasi) won the Madurai Kamaraj University ‘D’ Zone cricket tournament defeating SRNM College (Sattur) by 39 runs.

The scores:

Final: ANJA College 127 in 25 overs (Nagaarajan 47, Gokul 43) bt SRNM College (Sattur) 88 in 18 overs (Gokul three for 17).
Vincent D. Paul MHSS advances

At Tuticorin, Vincent D. Paul MHSS (Chennai) entered the semifinal round-robin league of the Athimuthu memorial Trophy State-level inter-school basket ball tournament defeating SAV HSS Tutucorin 44-39 on Saturday.

Other results: Quarterfinals: St. Paul HSS (Salem) bt Govt. HSS (Batlagundu) 60-31; St. Xavier’s HSS (Tutucorin) bt Caldwell HSS (Tutucorin) 19-18. Basketball tournament
An all-India invitation basketball tournament, conducted jointly by the Babushankar Memorial Basketball Club and the Sri Abhinav Trust for the Vinayaka Mission Trophy will be held at the Mahatma Gandhi Indoor Stadium at Coimbatore from August 27 to 31.
