Govindaraj scalps five

TIRUCHI: Govindaraj’s five-wicket haul helped Urumu Dhanalakshmi College defeat Meenakshi Ramasamy Arts and Science College by 120 runs and enter the quarterfinals of the Bharathidasan University inter-collegiate (Tiruchi zone) cricket tournament here on Saturday.

The scores: Pre-quarterfinals:

UDC 181 for seven in 25 overs (M. Sathish Kumar 59) bt Meenakshi Ramasamy 61 in 21 overs (Govindaraj five for 16, Gopinath three for 12).

Bishop Heber College 204 for six in 25 overs (Sudhakar 57, Janakiraman 56 not out, Suresh 54) bt MIET 85 in 22.4 overs (R. Ganesh four for 11).

Kurinji 105 for nine in 25 overs lost to Srimath Andavan 106 for six in 20.3 overs (Stephen 41 not out).

Imayam 95 in 19.2 overs (Santosh three for 15) lost to GAC, Tiruchi 96 for three in 14.5 overs (Sathish three for 23); St. Joseph’s 208 for six in 25 overs (Dharshan 50, Manivannan 32) bt National College 138 for eight in 25 overs (Ma ni 45).

Kongu 121 for six in 22 overs (Yuvaraj 51, Ganesan six for 31) bt Arungaraiamman 59 in 19.3 overs (Manikandan three for 20).

Dhanalakshmi Srinivasan 101 in 22 overs lost to GAC, Karur 103 for two in 14.3 overs.

GAC, Musiri 175 for seven in 25 overs (Dinesh 63, Raghu 52) bt Nehru Memorial 71 in 21 overs.
Coimbatore starts well

Host Coimbatore restricted Thiruvallur to 143 for eight on the opening day of the two-day TNCA under-15 inter district semifinal match at the SNR Sons grounds here on Saturday.

The scores: Thiruvallur 143 for eight in 58 overs (A. Srinivas 40, M. Hariprasad three for 43).
