BHUBANESWAR: Here is good news for residents of the city who don’t prefer to go to corporation offices to lodge complaints for redressal of their grievances. They will soon get a facility to air their grievances sitting in their homes. The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) will launch online grievances redressal facility on August 31, which is observed as the Local Self Government Day. It will enable a common citizen to lodge complaint through Internet. “This is part of our attempt to ensure accountability in the administration. Besides lodging complaints, people can well see the status of their grievances and follow it up with the civic body,” BMC Commissioner Aparajita Sarangi said here on Saturday. She said the BMC would also release its balance sheet, reflecting the financial decisions of the corporation on that day to make the organisation accountable to the people. “BMC will be the first urban local body in the State to do so.” This is part of the corporation’s double entry accounting system, which was aimed at eliminating financial irregularities in governance. Citizen Report Card
The BMC would also release Citizen Report Card on that day. “Through the cards people could assess performance of our officers. Citizen committees will take part in the exercise. We intended to make a tabulation of assessment and suggestions put forward by people in these report cards for our future reference,” Ms. Sarangi said. In the run-up to the Local Self Government Day celebration, BMC launched a signature campaign on Thursday.
