Twinning programme inaugurated

‘Students should not be frightened to dream’

Engineers reminded of their social responsibility

Manipal: The Associate Professor of Milwaukee School of Economics, USA, Charles Tritt, said on Saturday that engineers and architects had to respond to some undesirable changes, limited energy supplies, at least in the form of fossil fuels, and the variety of problems created by expanding population. He was speaking after inaugurating the 14th twinning programme in engineering at a function organised by the International Centre for Applied Sciences (ICAS), here.

Prof. Tritt said engineers and architects were driving many global changes by making advances in communication, transport, healthcare and other fields. The latest advances in communication and transportation had created a truly global economy. Students should not be frightened to dream, he said. As professionals, engineers and architects were adjudged as a group. When an engineered device or structure failed, as it recently happened in the American State of Minnesota where a highway bridge collapsed, the engineers should be reminded of their responsibility to create safe and beneficial products for society, Prof. Tritt said.

President of university programme of Manipal Universal Learning Rajen Padukone; director of ICAS Raghuvir Pai; deputy director of ICAS G.M.J. Bhat; and others were present.
