VILLUPURAM: Over 200 members of the Ramar Sethu Raksha Vedika from Andhra Pradesh, bound for Rameswaram, were stranded at Villupuram junction on Saturday.
They travelled by the Chennai–Thiruvananthapuram Guruvayur Express in unreserved compartments and got down at Villupuram junction on Friday night. They were planning to reach Madurai and then proceed to Rameswaram to participate in the struggle against the implementation of the Sethu project.
When the members tried to get into the reserved compartments of the Chennai-Madurai Vaigai Express, the passengers objected and complained to the railway authorities. Subsequently, the Railway Police Force forced the members to get down. The train was detained at the junction for about 35 minutes. — Special Correspondent
