South Zone emerges winner

VIJAYAWADA: South Zone emerged winner of the ACA senior women inter-zonal tournament for the N. Prasad Trophy at the Rural Development Trust grounds at Anantapur on Saturday. South tallied seven points while Central Zone finished runner-up with two points.

The final day’s play between South and Central was called off due to heavy rain.

The scores: South Zone 162 in 67.1 overs drew with Central Zone 70 in 24.4 overs.

Swaroop sizzles

Central Zone made 298 at stumps on the first day of the three-day ACA u-22 inter-zonal tournament at Venkatagiri, near Nellore, on Saturday.

The scores: Central Zone 298 in 87.2 overs (D. Swaroop 71, K. Varun 61 not out, R.A. Kumar 43, Sk. Naushad three for 78, P. Rajeswara Reddy three for 88) vs. South Zone.
Easy for Team ‘B’

Team ‘B’ scored an 84-run victory over Team ‘D’ in the KDCA u-15 selection cricket tournament at the Indira Gandhi Municipal Stadium here on Saturday.

The scores: Team ‘B’ 157 in 50 overs (Tirumala Rao 51, Venkatesh 44, Eswar three for 35) bt Team ‘D’ 73 in 48 overs (Tirumala Rao three for nine, Prudhvi three for nine).
Cynergy to sponsor Saira Banu

Cynergy Per4mers Inc., a USA-based sports promotion company would be sponsoring Vijayawada table tennis player Saira Banu by donating Rs. 15,000 per annum, according to company’s public relations officer P. Sheetal.

She said earlier Cynergy had adopted three Vijayawada paddlers — M. Mrudhula, K. Spoorthy and Shailu by donating Rs. 50,000 per annum. “We are also looking out for talented players in tennis and badminton. We are contemplating sponsoring Vizag’s V. Abhishek, an upcoming tennis player,” she added.
Shruthi in semifinals

J. Shruthi subdued Ch. Jyotsna 21-15, 21-16 in the girls’ singles quarterfinals of the State junior badminton championships at the BHEL International Club in Hyderabad here on Saturday.

Andhra teams

The Andhra Pradesh teams for the National inter-State senior athletic championships to be held at Bhopal, from September 17 to 20 have been announced.

A coaching camp will be held at the GMC Balayogi athletic stadium, Gachibowli, from September 1 to 14.

Players must report with two of their latest passport size photographs to N. Ramesh at the venue on September 1 at 10 a.m.

Selection trials

Trials to select the Visakhapatnam senior’s cricket team will be held at the ACA-VDCA Stadium ‘B’ ground, P.M. Palem, Visakhapatnam, from 2 p.m. on September 2. Players who have attended the u-19 and 22 trials held earlier need not attend. Interested can register at the VDCA office, GVMC Stadium on or before August 31 between 5 and 7 p.m. every day.
