Two teachers have been suspended ‘Punishment was given with good intentions’
BANGALORE: Terming the complaint against seven teachers of Vinodh English High School as “motivated,” the school management has decided to initiate legal action against Sangeetha, the student who was allegedly beaten up in the school, and her parents. The management has also kept two of the accused teachers under suspension pending a comprehensive inquiry. In a press statement, the school administrator K. Srinivas Murthy said only two teachers had punished the girl, but with “good intentions”. Conceding that the punishment crossed the limits set by the law, he said the girl and her mother were upset that the school principal had called the girl’s stepfather to alert him about her misdeeds. She and her mother, the administrator recalled, had often complained to the school headmistress about the stepfather. The principal, who felt that discussing the girl’s problems with her mother would be of no use, alerted the stepfather instead. Mr. Murthy said he suspected that the girl and her mother chose to complain against seven teachers to avenge this.
