GHMC to reach out to senior citizens

HYDERABAD: The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) in its effort to reach out to the senior citizens of the twin cities has come out with a slew of measures for providing better facilities to them including support for old age homes.

Commissioner and Special Officer C.V.S.K. Sarma, from whom the idea had originated, held a series of meetings on Wednesday with various non-governmental organisations, nursing homes, corporate hospitals and others, to take better care of the elderly. Special attention will be paid to the needs of the elders in slums, priority in providing better civic amenities and facilitating bill payments. Services of retired professionals like engineers, doctors and others are to be utilised in this novel scheme. Concessions in medical treatment at various hospitals and special medical camps are to be conducted in parks on a regular basis.
