HYDERABAD: About 70-80 representatives from various city-based schools attended the Coordinators’ Meet as part of The Hindu’s Newspaper In Education programme on Saturday at Hotel Green Park.
Regional General Manager of The Hindu in Hyderabad P. Ranga Reddy explained the concept of NIE as “complementing school curriculum and widening the students’ horizons”.
Explaining the merits of inculcating the habit of newspaper reading among the students, he discussed the role of association, visualisation, concentration and repetition in aiding memory retention. He also discussed the methodology to be adopted at NIE sessions.
As part of the programme, schoolchildren will be allowed in batches to visit the printing press and learn its mechanisms, he said.
An audio-visual presentation about the birth, progress and success of the The Hindu preceded the actual presentation of the concept.
