Sangareddy: The landless poor agreed to vacate the endowment land that they occupied under the CPI (M)-led ‘Bhoo Poratam’ in Chintalpalli village on Saturday, following the Deputy Tahsildar’s assurance on a survey within a fortnight. Over 100 activists pitched makeshift tents on lands belonging to Chennakesava temple with survey numbers 32 and 37. They argued with the police and the revenue officials that the land has been vacant and their applications for land have been pending with the mandal revenue office for a long time. Additional forces
They refused to leave the land till the administration distributed land. The police prepared for the worst and even called for additional forces to diffuse the tense situation. However, deputy Tahsildar K. Manohar succeeded in explaining the activists that occupation of the endowment land would be an illegal act and the houses constructed in these lands would be demolished. Seeing reason, the activists demanded that the revenue officer complete survey of vacant lands in the village within a fortnight. With the deputy Tahsildar accepting the proposal, the activists removed the flags and the tents.
