PUDUCHERRY: The administration has tightened security across the Puducherry and Karaikal regions in view of a general alert given by the Home Ministry after the bomb blast in Hyderabad. Security has been tightened in religious places, tourist spots, Raj Bhavan and commercial areas from Saturday night. Incoming and outgoing vehicles were checked and the check-posts have been strengthened, according to a senior police officer. Police also conducted checks in hotels and guesthouses. Hoteliers have been told to keep a watch on the occupants and their movements. Police have also intensified the night patrolling, and more plain cloths men are deployed for night vigil. In view of the general security scenario across the country, police were now planning to put in new security measures in Government building and tourist spots. A senior officer said they were planning to have talks with administrators of major places of worship in Puducherry and Karaikal regions to install metal detectors for screening devotees.
