Child Labour Act: cases filed against two couples

BANGALORE: The Labour Department has filed criminal cases against two couples for engaging children for domestic work and ill-treating them.
It has also initiated separate proceedings for recovery of penalty and arrears of wages. The action follows an investigation ordered by Upa Lokayukta G. Patri Basavana Goud into the incidents involving 10-year-old Pooja, 13-year-old Fatima and 8-year-old Romana.
While Pooja was rescued from the house of Mahesh Reddy and Roppa Reddy in H.S.R. Layout, Fatima and Romana were rescued from the house of Farook and Banu.
Mr. Goud took suo motu notice of the incidents and asked for an explanation from the jurisdictional Additional Labour Commissioner.
