Plea to make appointments to consumer forum

Staff Reporter

KOZHIKODE: A meeting of the District Consumer Protection Forum has urged the Government to take immediate steps to fill the vacancies in the Forum so as to make it functional.

The meeting noted that the functioning of the Forum had been affected in the absence of a president or the sufficient number of members.

The Forum should be made functional in order to find solutions to a number of complaints it had received, the meeting said.

It noted that the functioning of the Forum had been hit for the last five months. One woman member retired on March 2006 and another member in November the same year. As the term of the president expired five months ago, the Forum became non-functional. Now complaints were just received at the office of the Forum.

The meeting noted that more than 700 cases were pending with the Forum. Most of the cases were related to cooking gas.
