CHENNAI: Officials of the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence in Chennai seized Rs. 18 lakh worth of shoes, sports jerseys and jeans pants, declared as unaccompanied baggage at the Air Cargo complex on Thursday.
A release from the DRI said based on specific information that commodities in commercial/trade quantities, declared as personal effects, were imported from Hong Kong and the authorities intercepted four unaccompanied baggage and examined them. The authorities found 1,614 gents shoes, 338 synthetic sports jersey uppers, 677 jerseys and 16 jeans pants. On verification the addresses given in the import documents were found to be noted related with the persons who had sent the unaccompanied baggage.As per regulations only personal items could be brought as unaccompanied baggage.
